SRI LANKA, South Asia
On December 26, 2004, the deadliest tsunami in the history of the world struck the west coast of Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Triggered by a massive 9.2M earthquake - the largest earthquake recorded in 40 years, Sri Lanka is estimated to have suffered over 40,000 casualties and 21,500 injuries.
Under the direction of Gary Foo, Executek International’s global strategic affiliate DIMERSAR (Disaster Management, Emergency Response, Search and Rescue) was deployed to Sri Lanka as part of a Medical and Flood Rescue/Response effort. They provided training to nurses and hospital staff including field trauma and emergency medical care, and assisted at a minor injuries clinic near Galle.
